Read Below for an explanation of the “Unstacked Back” posture habit and how it's impacting you.
Each of the vertebrae in our back sits one on top of the other, building a "stack" that forms our spinal column.
If you suffer from the "unstacked back" posture habit, it means you routinely position your body for long periods of time where the vertebrae in your back aren't correctly stacked (or aligned.) This vertebrae positioning can lead to a host of negative health consequences in both the long and short term.
This posture habit is common in those who stand still for long periods like cashiers. Others impacted by the "Unstacked Back" Posture Habit are those who frequently carry heavy objects where the weight isn't evenly distributed (i.e. labourers or carrying a heavy backpack). This is also common in women who wear high heels and often sit for long periods and cross one leg.
If your posture habit is the "unstacked back," the impacts and symptoms can vary dramatically, with some of the first warning signs being back pain, nagging aches, neck pain, hip and leg pain, and headaches and migraines. Considering how wide-ranging the symptoms can be, it's strongly advised that you speak to a qualified posture and spine expert for a personalized assessment.

1.
Make your workstation ergonomically correct. If you spend most of your day behind a desk, this is one of the easiest things you can do (and you will thank me you did - the difference can be unbelievable.) If you work at a desk, look online and learn how to adjust your chair to your body. Ensure your monitor or screen is directly eye level, keep your keyboard directly in front of you, and close to your body.
2.
Lie flat on the ground for three to five minutes once a day without any cushions or support. When you do, allow your body to relax, this simple exercise can help your body realign and readjust to its natural resting position.
3.
Use a pillow when sitting down to provide extra support. Whether you're sitting in the living room, at a desk, or in a deep comfy chair, you can improve your posture by placing a pillow behind your lower back or by sitting on a cushion to reduce slouching.
Hey there I’m Dr. Kory Wahl, I’m a Chiropractor with a special interest in Posture in Winnipeg Manitoba.
I help individuals (just like you) improve their posture, get rid of nagging back and neck pain, and live happier and healthier lives.
One thing I've learned over time is the healthiest individuals (in most cases) are those who have the best habits. Whether those are fitness habits, eating habits, or "Posture Habits." Basically, it's the little things that make a massive difference over time.
Good habits are incredible, and they empower you to create and maintain a healthy lifestyle, but bad habits are often more powerful. Why? Because, unlike good habits, they often require little work and are easy to fall into.
The problem is these simple Posture Habits can cause you severe, long-term pain, aches, and discomfort. Pain and discomfort you might already be experiencing and living with. The problem is most people never realize their posture, or maybe some trauma that leads to similar structural problems.
But no matter what poor posture, back pain, neck pain or other structurally related symptoms you're dealing with, there is a solution.
